Xolela Mangcu awarded Harry Oppenheimer Fellowship

Prof Xolela Mangcu and geneticist Prof Brenda Wingfield (University of Pretoria) have been awarded the prestigious Harry Oppenheimer Fellowship awards for 2016.

Prof Mangcu will use his research grant to write a new biography of former president Nelson Mandela, and will be taking up the fellowship at Harvard University for the 2016/2017 academic year. 

Prof Mangcu’s family joined him at the awards ceremony, which took place this past weekend at the Brenthurst Library in Johannesburg.
